We thought we'd take this opportunity to demonstrate the range and variety of kitchens we provide with a look at a very different style - the more traditional "Country Kitchen".

What makes a country kitchen?

There are usually two styles that people refer to when it comes to a country kitchen - French or English. Both are styles that have a more cottage-like feel, often with rustic colours and natural (or natural-look) materials - think wood, stone, and wicker.

French styles may also veer towards the white and blue, with heavily patterned tiles or fabrics.

Design Elements

The main elements in a country-style kitchen are the rustic style features - like this gorgeous worktop:

Or these very country-style baskets:

Areas for plates and crockery to be displayed is another regular feature in country kitchens. The traditional style was the old oak dresser, but open shelves are a modern, less bulky option, bordered by glass-fronted cabinets for a similar effect. A natural backdrop, with vibrant fresh herbs, makes for a very refined country look.

Cabinet/Cupboard Doors

The choice of cupboard doors is one of the most obvious differences between a country kitchen and a more streamlined style - while modern, sleek designs opt for flat, handleless, and often high gloss doors, there are some much more traditional styles for the country kitchen.

With Nobilia, there are hundreds, if not thousands, of combinations of doors and handles to choose from, with traditional designs and colours as well as modern styles. You could mix and match to get exactly the right look - because choosing a specific design inspiration doesn't mean you can't insert your own taste and originality into it too.

Modernising the Country Kitchen

Why not select elements of the country kitchen look, such as the cupboard doors and rustic materials, and combine them with bold wallpaper patterns and modern bar seating? It tones down the country look and makes it fit better into a more modern home - perfect if you don't live in a cottage but want to bring some of that charm to your kitchen without going overboard.

Or you could combine traditional, rustic-looking materials with modern appliances for a stylised kitchen that still offers all the "mod cons".

Whatever type of kitchen design you love, there's the perfect style out there for you with Nobilia. So why not download the latest catalogue and take a look at what you could create.
